German chemicals company Evonik has signed a 15-year deal to buy output from a 100MW portion of EnBW’s 900MW He Dreiht offshore wind farm in the German North Sea.
The power purchase agreement (PPA) will cover approximately 25% of Evonik’s electricity needs in Europe from 2026, the company claimed. It will balance variations in the wind farm’s feed-in itself as chemical production requires a constant supply of energy.
EnBW is also due to sell power from He Dreiht to Frankfurt airport.
He Dreiht is planned for a site 90km north-west of Borkum and 110km west of Helgoland. It is due to start operating at the end of 2025. Vestas is set to provide 64 of its V236-15.0MW turbines.
