Delays to a major new transmission line are due to set back development of Colombia’s wind energy sector.
The 470km Colectora line was originally due to begin operating in December 2023, transporting power from seven new wind farms from the north-eastern La Guajira peninsula to the centre of the country.
However, after the Covid-19 pandemic halted consultations with indigenous communities along the route of the line, energy authority UPME has pushed back the commissioning date to 28 June 2025.
Grupo Energia Bogota, which is developing the line, said consultations have now begun with 207 of the 224 communities affected.
Wind farms affected by the delay include projects owned by AES Corp, Enel, and EPM.
