Vena Energy is planning to enter two offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 1.8GW in Taiwan’s tender next year.

Its 1.2GW Wei-Na project is planned for a 126km² site 20km off the coast of Miaoli county in north-west Taiwan, while its 600MW Wei-Long project is planned for a 76km² site 43km off the coast of Changhua county in the west.

The projects are due to use turbines with power ratings of 14-20MW, the developer stated.

Taiwan plans to auction 15GW of offshore wind capacity, which is due to come online between 2026 and 2035. 

An ongoing tender round is set to close on 30 September with results expected in December 2022. Another 3GW auction is planned for next year.

Vena Energy expects to participate in next year’s 3GW round, the developer’s wind technology lead Daniel Astbury told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç. However, the auction timetable has not yet been announced, he noted.

Singaporean renewables company Vena has previously invested in solar power in Taiwan.
