The European turbine manufacturer will supply 14 of its SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbines for Green Power Investment’s 112MW Ishikari Bay New Port project. It will also service the turbines for 15 years.

Ishikari is due to be located approximately 5km from shore of the Ishikari Bay in the north-west of Japan’s main island of Hokkaido.

The SG 8.0-167 DD turbines will be tailored to meet local Japanese codes and standards regarding typhoons, seismic activities, 50Hz operation, as well as operation in high and low ambient temperatures.

Siemens Gamesa claims it is the first offshore wind turbine to receive ClassNK certification – certifying that it meets the technical standards mandatory for the Japanese government to approve construction.
Turbine installation is planned to begin in July 2023.

Siemens Gamesa has previously supplied more than 500MW of operational onshore wind turbines in Japan, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.

It has no operational offshore turbines in Japanese waters, though in addition to picking up the Ishikari firm order, it has also been named the preferred supplier for an up to 455MW project planned off the coast of Akita.
