RWE has commissioned the 475MW Nysäter  wind farm in northern Sweden, amid a commissioning spree in the Nordic nation.

All the turbines at Nysäter – which is owned by RWE (20%) and Energy Infrastructure Partners (80%) – are now fully operational and connected to the grid. RWE will operate the wind farm.

The project in Västernorrland County, northern Sweden consists of 104 of Nordex’s N149/4.0-4.5MW turbines and 10 of the German manufacturer's N131/3900 turbines.

With the addition of Nysater, more than 1GW of new onshore wind farms have now been commissioned in Sweden this year, and the country now has more than 13GW of operational wind capacity, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.

This includes recent additions of large Vattenfall and OX2 projects that have been commissioned in recent weeks.

Industry body WindEurope expects 2.2GW of onshore wind power capacity to be connected to the Swedish grid this year. 

It does not expect any new offshore projects to be commissioned before 2026, despite interest in the sector from the likes of OX2 and Simply Blue Group, and despite the government unveiling three new offshore wind zones.
