Ørsted and Polish state-owned power company Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) are calling a tender to secure turbines for two offshore wind farms with more than 2.5GW in capacity they are jointly developing in Poland’s Baltic Sea.
The companies, which are 50:50 partners in the special purpose vehicles developing the 1498MW Baltica 2 and 1045MW Baltica 3 projects, said potential suppliers who have met formal requirements in a pre-qualification process will then be invited to submit binding offers.
Ørsted and PGE are also preparing tenders for additional components of the project, and are in discussions with ports that could potentially service and install the turbines. Procurement procedures are being launched this year and next, the companies added.
Søren Westergaard Jensen, director of development for the project at Ørsted, said the 2.5GW-plus project would be composed of about 200 wind turbines.
Ørsted and PGE plan to commission the Baltica 3 wind farm in 2026 and Baltica 2 in 2027 and to operate the facilities for 30 years.
In April, Poland’s energy regulator awarded contracts for difference of up to PLN 319.60/MWh (€70.23/MWh) for the projects. Ørsted and PGE’s projects make up a major portion of a total 5.9GW of Polish offshore wind farms that secured CfDs in an initial allocation phase that wrapped up this summer. The regulator is due to award a further 5GW through two competitive tenders in 2025 and 2027.
