Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy is due to supply its 14MW offshore wind turbines to Northland Power and Yushan Energy’s 1GW-plus Hai Long cluster off Taiwan's west coast.
It has been named preferred supplier for the full 1,044MW cluster, having initially been lined up for the 294MW Hai Long 2A project.
The developers have now added the 224MW Hai Long 2B and 504MW Hai Long 3 wind farms to the preferred supplier agreement with SGRE.
They have not yet determined how many SG 14-222 DD offshore wind turbines will be deployed at the cluster.
The agreement remains subject to a final investment decision from the Hai Long consortium partners (Northland Power 60% and Yushan Energy 40%).
The developers’ local content plan for Hai Long 2A was approved recently, paving the way for construction to begin. The project is due online by 2024.
Siemens Gamesa is currently building a nacelle assembly facility in Taichung on the west coast of Taiwan. It aims to begin production in the third quarter of the calendar year. Subject to a final investment decision by the project partners, a factory expansion to double both the plot area and the number of employees working there will start in 2022.
