Power purchase and investment agreements were signed earlier this week by the deputy prime minister, Sardor Umurzakov, the chair of the country鈥檚 national grid, and Masda chief executive Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi.
According to Masdar, the 521.7MW Zarafshan 听wind farm will be commissioned by 2024.
鲍锄产别办颈蝉迟补苍鈥檚 wind fleet currently consists of just one 750kW Goldwind turbine, but much larger projects are planned, including a 1.5GW wind farm developed by Chinese power firm Lioaning.听
Last year, Masdar agreed to build a 100MW solar PV plant in Uzbekistan, also in the Navoi region.
Uzbekistan aims to install 30GW of extra energy capacity by 2030, with wind supplying 10% (3GW) of that, according to the government's ten-year electricity plan developed with the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank.
In line with its national low-carbon energy strategy unveiled earlier this week, the government also wants to see 5GW of solar, 3.8GW of hydro and 2.4GW of nuclear capacity on its grid within the same timeframe.听Uzbekistan is aiming to meet 21% of its overall energy needs from renewable sources by 2031.
鈥淭his energy project with Masdar clearly illustrates the testimony to the strong commitment by the government of Uzbekistan to increasing private sector participation in the country and support our ambitious clean energy goals,鈥 Umurzakov said.
Masdar鈥檚 Al Ramahi added that the 500MW wind farm supported 鲍锄产别办颈蝉迟补苍鈥檚 long-term renewable energy ambitions and its strong commitment to modernise its power sector and invest in energy security.
