Vattenfall reaches FID on subsidy-free 1.5GW Hollandse Kust Zuid

Vattenfall has moved a step closer to starting construction on the world鈥檚 largest subsidy-free offshore wind farm in Dutch waters after it announced its final investment decision (FID).

Hollandse Kust Zuid will comprise 140 SGRE 11MW turbines

The Swedish utility was awarded permits for the construction of 1520MW Hollandse Kust Zuid 听in two subsidy-free tenders in 2018 and 2019. To leverage cost synergies, the phases were merged into one project, due to be commissioned in 2023.

The zero-subsidy wind farm consists of 140 11MW turbines, which will be supplied by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE).

Vattenfall claimed in its Q1 results in April that it had听been largely shielded from the negative impacts of large price declines caused by Covid-19. In a statement, CEO Magnus Hall wrote that the investment in Hollandse Kust Zuid showed his company鈥檚 commitment to delivering for the future despite of the coronavirus pandemic.听
