SGRE upgrades Hollandse Kust Zuid turbines to 11MW

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) will deliver its newly unveiled 11MW offshore wind turbine model to Vattenfall's zero-subsidy Hollandse Kust Zuid projects in the Netherlands.

SGRE unveiled the latest iteration of its direct drive turbine on day one of the WindEurope Offshore 2019 conference and exhibition in Copenhagen, Denmark. 

On day two, it has announced it will use the turbine at the 1.5GW zone in the North Sea, subject to a positive final investment decision by developer Vattenfall. 

SGRE had previously been named the preferred turbine supplier for .

The preferred supplier agreement has now been extended to include the sister project, Hollandse Kust Zuid III & IV, following Vattenfall's success at the . Both projects will be combined to leverage cost synergies. 

SGRE said the increased turbine capacity was the result of a software upgrade and refined processes, allowing the model to produce 11MW "under certain site conditions".
