The 1,134.9MW of orders it booked in the US in Q2 — including its first orders for the turbines from its new Delta4000 series there — accounted for 56% of its 2,003.3MW total during the period.
This prompted Nordex to describe the US as its "most important single market" during Q2. The US was also the main market in Q2 for rival manufacturer Vestas.
"After winning significant orders in Europe, Australia and Latin America for the N149/4.0-4.5 turbine, we have now been able to break into the US market with this model," said Nordex’s chief sales officer Patxi Landa.
The US orders also helped drive an increase in North America’s share of Nordex’s total orders in the first half of the year.
Nordex received orders of 3,038.4MW in the first six months of 2019 — up 44% from one year ago — with its activity becoming more concentrated in the core regions of Europe, North American and Latin America.
The three core regions accounted for 95% of orders in the first half of the year — about nine percentage points more than their share for the whole of 2018, when it received 4.75GW of orders.
Europe and North America both accounted for 37% of total orders in H1, while 21% orders were from Latin America.
This marks a slight decline in Europe’s (41.5% in the whole of 2018) importance to Nordex, while Latin America and North America (25% and 15.1% respectively) both increased their share of the manufacturer’s order book.
Nordex’s Delta4000 series accounted for about 35% (1,055.1MW) of orders in the first half of the year — lower than the platform’s 40% share of orders throughout 2018.
