It began production at the facility in Córdoba in central Argentina in mid-April, and the first AW132/3300 nacelles have already left the production line, destined for projects for utility AES Generación.
The factory will have an annual capacity of up to 500MW, the manufacturer stated.
Nordex will produce nacelles and hubs at the Córdoba plant, while its subcontractors will manufacture concrete towers at three other Argentinian factories.
Blades will be produced at existing factories in Germany and Spain depending on the turbine model, a Nordex spokesman told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
There are currently no plans to establish blade manufacturing plants in Argentina, he added.
The manufacturer stated that the Argentinian plants enable it to supply turbines in the country that qualify as fully local, entitling clients to claim "significant tax benefits" and so reduce the cost of energy.
Nordex has received more than 600MW of orders in Argentina in the last two years.
The Córdoba nacelles and hubs factory will employ up to 100 technicians, while a further 200 workers will be employed at each of the concrete tower plants.
Nordex had signed an agreement with Fábrica Argentina de Aviones (Fadea), a government-controlled industrial manufacturer active in aviation and renewable energy, for construction of the Córdoba plant in December 2018.
