Siemens Gamesa hits 1GW order mark with 4.5MW turbine

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has surpassed 1GW of sales for its SG 4.5-145 turbine first announced in August 2018 with an order for a 232MW wind farm in Nebraska.

Siemens Gamesa first unveiled the SG 4.5-145 in August, and has since sold more than 1GW

It will provide 30 units of the 4.5MW model as well as 36 SG 2.7-129 turbines for EDF Renewables’ Milligan wind farm.

SGRE will also provide services and maintenance for the project under the terms of the contract.

Project completion is expected by the end of 2020.

SGRE unveiled the SG 4.5-145 in August 2018, having upgraded its 4.2MW platform to have a nominal power rating of 4.5MW, with a flexible output of between 4.2MW and 4.8MW.

It received its first order for the turbine in December, and has since sold more than 1GW of the 4.5MW variant worldwide.

These orders include two additional purchases by Milligan developer EDF Renewables in April, for a combined 487MW of projects in Texas and New Mexico.
