Southwestern Electric Power Company (Swepco) is seeking to acquire new or existing projects coming online by 15 December 2021, and which are eligible to receive 80% of the expiring federal production tax credit (PTC).
Projects must also be at least 100MW and located in, and connected to, the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) regional grid in Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma, Swepco stated.
The RfP has a deadline of 1 March 2019, and follows Swepco’s parent company AEP scrapping plans for its 2GW Wind Catcher project in July 2018.
Swepco currently sources 469MW of wind projects in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas through several power purchase agreements (PPAs).
The utility has 5.24GW of total generating capacity.
