Vestas receives first Brazilian order for V150

BRAZIL: Vestas will provide its V150-4.2MW model in Brazil for the first time, following an order for a 101MW wind farm in the north-eastern state of Rio Grande do Norte.

Vestas first unveiled its V150-4.2MW in June 2017

The 24 turbines to be installed at Brazilian energy company Echoenergia’s Serra do Mel project will be produced locally, the manufacturer announced.

Its V150-4.2MW turbine has 73.7-metre-long blades and the industry’s tallest steel tower, making it well suited to Brazil’s prevailing wind conditions, according to Vestas.

Turbine delivery is planned for the first quarter of 2020, with commissioning expected by the end of the second quarter of the same year.

Local production of the V150-4.2MW, which was first unveiled in June 2017, will entail new investments in manufacturing in the country to comply with local content requirements, Vestas stated – talthough the manufacturer did not provide further details of this.

The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) Finame II rules require local content to account for 70% of hub, nacelle, tower and blade manufacturing.
