'N149 can adapt perfectly to every site', Nordex claims

HAMBURG 2018: Nordex overcame a challenging, self-imposed timeline and cost-competition pressures in the market as it developed its N149 prototype, according to the company's head of product strategy.

Having first announced the N149/4.0-4.5 in 2017, Nordex was keen to install the turbine ahead of this year’s Global Wind Summit in Hamburg, Till Junge said.

“uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç was given exclusive access as it installed a prototype near Hamburg in August.

At the trade show, Nordex announced it had received the official statement of compliance for design according to IEC and the German DIBt type test certificates from TÜV SÜD.

Nordex’s head of product strategy and sales support Till Junge told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç: "I think the key feature of this machine is its flexibility.

"We have introduced a flexible rating from 4MW to 4.5MW, a variety of power modes plus a flexible lifetime. This enables the turbine to adapt perfectly to every site."

Junge cited low-wind/high-turbulence regimes like Germany, high-wind/low-turbulence countries like Turkey and Australia and medium-wind sites in Sweden as potential markets for the N149.

He added: "This is the big strength of this machine — that we can max out the performance of each of these sites and make sure we produce as much energy as possible."
