Wayra I, Enel’s first wind site in the country, comprises 42 of Nordex Acciona’s AW125 3.15MW turbines and was built in roughly 12 months, the company stated.
It had successfully bid for a project with a capacity of approximately 126MW in the country’s fourth renewables tender, which was held in February 2016.
However, under the terms of the power purchase agreement (PPA) with energy and mining regulator Osinergmin, the capacity could vary by 10%.
Wayra I is connected to the Peruvian transmission grid (SEIN) at the Poroma substation and is supported by a 20-year power deal with Peru’s ministry of energy and mines.
Commissioning means Enel now operates more than 1.1GW of renewable energy in Peru: 790MW of hydropower, 180MW of solar PV and 132MW of wind power. It is the only company to operate all three power sources in the country.
