The plans form part of the existing state strategy for the development of renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan, and in particular wind power.
Following the investment, the Yeni Yashma project in Khizi, 100km northwest of Baku is set to be expanded from 20 turbines to 34-40 turbines.
This will allow its capacity to increase from the current 50MW to 70-80MW.
Elsewhere, an expansion is also planned for a second wind project, also located in the Khizi district. It is currently comprised of two wind turbines, however it is planned this will increase up to 16 units by the middle of the current year.
Total potential of renewables in Azerbaijan exceeds 12GW, while the potential of wind power is estimated at 3.5GW.
As part of the plans, the Azerbaijanian government is further investigating wind sites along the coast of the Caspian Sea.
