Under the terms of the agreement, Energy “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç will calculate the wind power potential around Georgia's largest cities and prepare environmental impact assessments for potential sites.
Georgian energy minister Kakha Kaladze said that after the completion of the study, the company will start building wind farms, with a possible total capacity of up to 1.5GW.
At the end of last year, the Georgian government signed a similar memorandum with US firm Aeolus Apollo Alto Energy for the construction of wind farms with a capacity up to 200MW. The country currently has no utility-scale wind projects.
As well as encouraging foreign investment, the government announced last November that is to invest directly in a 20MW wind project around 60 kilometres from the capital Tblisi.
The government has previously said that wind energy could would help the country move away from its dependence on foreign energy sources, particularly Russia and Azerbaijan, which supply 75% of its energy.
