The agreement is a "precursor" to the final investment decision, but it allows Senvion to develop a 3.7MW turbine designed specifically for the project. Senvion is also set to act as the EPC contractor following an investment decision.
The 3.7M144 will be added to Senvion's turbine portfolio. It will become the company's biggest 3MW-range turbine, with a larger diameter rotor than previously seen at 144 metres, instead of the previously available 140-metre rotor.
"This agreement demonstrates that our commitment to deliver optimised products for all wind conditions is highly effective and helps to consolidate Senvion's strong market position in Australia," said Senvion CEO Jurgen Geissinger.
The company's new Australia CEO, Raymond Gilfedder, added: "The introduction of ambitious renewable energy targets in Victoria has injected new confidence in the local wind energy market." Gilfedder was appointed in January, replacing Chris Judd.
Senvion has supplied 440MW of turbines to Australian projects to date.
The Murra Warra project was granted planning consent from the Victorian government in December 2016. RES Australia recently completed the 240MW Ararat wind project, also in Victoria.
