Russia reserves 1.4GW for Fortum in tender

RUSSIA: The Russian government has officially announced it will conduct a tender from 29 May to 9 June, for a selection of around 2GW of capacity due online in 2020.

Up to 1.4GW of wind capacity is expected to be reserved for Finnish developer Fortum.

According to estimates of the Russian energy ministry, Fortum could invest roughly $3.5 billion in the projects.

These wind farms are likely to be built in Tatarstan, Kuban, Stavropol Territory, Orel, Ulyanovsk and Murmansk regions, while the government will guarantee the return of investments to the investor through the signing of power supply contracts.

Currently Fortum is building a 35MW pilot wind farm in the Ulyanovsk region, scheduled to be online in the second half of 2017.

A second tender for about 1.29GW of projects due to be commissioned in 2021 will be held at the same time.
