The site in Tamil Nadu, southeast India, is currently used to produce WEG's electric motors and generators.
The 35,000 square-metre site provides 490 jobs. The announcement was made at the Windergy trade fair taking place in New Delhi this week (25-28 April).
"The modular design of our manufacturing complex allows us to expand the company with reasonably low investments, in this case limited to certain devices and tools specifically used in the manufacture of wind turbines," said WEG India managing director, Swapnil Kaushik.
The turbines will be available from 2018, with the factor able to produce 250MW a year, WEG said.
"In addition to being the world's fourth largest wind power generation market, the country offers an excellent supply chain for wind turbines and very competitive production costs," said WEG global wind turbine managing director Joao Paulo Gualberto da Silva.
WEG follows Senvion and Nordex, which also launched new turbines in to the Indian market at the Windergy show.
Vestas' new upgrade to its 2MW-platform will also be aimed at the Indian market, which GWEC expected to reach approximately 4GW of installations
