Through its Russian subsidiary Azov VES, Sowitec was awarded the plot of land by the governor of the Rostov region without a tender procedure, due to a regional law supporting large-scale investment projects.
Sowitec is set to invest RUB 9.9 billion (€164 million) in the project, which could become one of Russia's largest wind sites, the Russian Wind Industry Association (RAWI) said.
The developer is planning to enter the project into the annual federal tender for renewable projects in June, to supply power in the wholesale market for 15 years.
The project is planned to be completed in 2020, RAWI said.
Sowitec has developed wind projects across Germany, France and Latin America.
