Don't look down

SWEDEN: A head for heights, nerves of steel, together with heavy-duty clothes and equipment are the minimum requirements for the highly trained technicians that operate at extreme heights and in freezing weather on wind turbine inspection and repair during the winter months.

Winter in northern Sweden presents formidable challenges to operations and maintenance (O&M) needs. This technician is employed by Rope Access Sverige, which has carried out installation and repair work for companies including Vestas, Siemens and Enercon.

To guard against dropping tools from a great height, he is using equipment from specialist supplier Bahco, including lanyards, pouches, belts and hang bags.

"Our aim has always been to develop ergonomic tools that make work safer and less demanding for professional users," says Mark Haywood, UK boss of SNA Europe, the company behind the Bahco brand.
