Offshore Project Progress - 2 September

WORLDWIDE: Recent project updates from Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Taiwan.

Turbine installation at the 600MW Gemini project in the Netherlands has been completed

Gemini

Installation completed: The last of Gemini’s 150 SWT-4.0-130 turbines has been installed, marking the completion of construction at the 600MW North Sea project.

Full commissioning is scheduled for spring 2017.

Gemini’s ownership structure comprises; Northland Power 60%, Siemens 20%, Van Oord 10% and HVC 10%. In addition to being a project shareholder, Van Oord was also the EPC contractor. 24-Aug-16

 

Wikinger

Transmission progress: Wikinger’s substation has been installed. All the structural components were produced at the Navantia dockyards in Cadiz, Spain and the Oleg Stashnov vessel was deployed at the project site in the Baltic Sea.

Iberdrola's 350MW Wikinger is due for completion at the end of 2017. 29-Aug-16

 

Formosa 1

Construction delay: On 15 August, the charter of A2Sea’s M/V Torben installation vessel  ended, without A2Sea being able to complete installation tasks at Formosa 1.

Technical failure of equipment and project delays from the foundations contractor were cited.

Alternative contractors will complete the installation of the pilot phase’s two foundations and two turbines. Two Siemens 4MW turbines are due to be installed at the site off Taiwan's west coast. 30-Aug-16

 

Dudgeon

Vessel preparation: A2SEA’s Sea Challenger installation vessel has arrived at the Dudgeon project site, in the North Sea, off east England.

The vessel will act as an accommodation vessel for around three months, until the installation of the 402MW project’s turbines begins in early 2017.

Statkraft, Statoil and Masdar's project will comprise 67 Siemens 6MW turbines. 31-Aug-16

 

Nordergrunde

UXO complete: James Fisher Subsea has completed the removal of unexploded ordnance (UXO) at the Nordergrunde project site, 16km offshore in the German North Sea.

Of the 224 targets identified, 72 were deemed to be UXO and had to be detonated. Two vessels, specialist divers and ROVs were deployed. Wpd's 111MW Nordergrunde is due for completion in 2017. 31-Aug-16
