Offshore Project Progress - 19 August

WORLDWIDE: Recent project updates from two developments in Germany, plus news of the installation of the first offshore project in the US.

Installation of the US' first offshore wind project has been completed

Atlantis I

Support plans: PNE Wind intends to participate in Germany's 2017 offshore wind tender with its 73-turbine Atlantis I project, the developer has stated.

Planned for a site in the North Sea, the project's planned capacity has been raised to up to 584MW from 400MW. 11-Aug

 

Arkona

Foundation preparation: EEW Special Pipe Constructions has begun the manufacture of Arkona’s foundations in Rostock, Germany, while Bladt Industries has started making the transition pieces in Aalborg, Denmark

The components will be installed at the Baltic Sea project site in 2017. 18-Aug

Installation underway: Onshore construction work for the Arkona project has commenced, at the Mukran ferry port in Sassnitz on the island of Rugen, Germany. E.on’s and Statoil’s 385MW German project is due for completion in 2019. 18-Aug

 

Block Island

Turbines in: All five GE Haliade 6MW turbines have been installed at the US' s 30MW Block Island project. 

The site, 26km off the US' north-east mainland, is the country's first commercial offshore wind project. 

Installation commenced on 4 August using Fred Olsen Windcarriers' Brave Tern jack-up vessel. 19-Aug
