CS Wind has started building works on a new £27 million factory in Campbeltown, Scotland to supply towers to onshore and offshore projects.
The factory will create 160 new jobs at the site, which already employs 175 people. CS Wind acquired the site when it bought the Wind Towers (Scotland) firm in April 2016.
The upgraded facility will increase onshore tower production and allow larger-diameter offshore towers to be made.
Under its deal with Vattenfall, CS Wind will be able to tender for tower supply contracts on all future onshore projects, the Swedish developer said. There will also be further discussions on supplying future offshore projects.
Vattenfall said it could need over 100 towers if all of its current development pipeline in the UK – mostly in Scotland – is built.
For Siemens, CS Wind will supply 200 offshore towers between 2018 and 2019.
