CS Wind to set up tower hub in UK

UK: Korean firm CS Wind has been handed a government grant to build a tower manufacturing facility in the Humber region, northeast UK.

CS Wind has overseas production facilities in China, Canada, and Vietnam

CS Wind will be handed approximately £1 million from the government's regional growth fund initiative.

The programme supports projects that increase investment in the private sector and secures long-term employment.

The company said it would be able to set up its European headquarters in the Humber region to support the European offshore industry.

Up to 200 direct jobs are expected to be created as a result of the investment. Business and energy minister Matthew Hancock said the funding should help CS Wind set up the UK's "first factory dedicated to the production of offshore wind towers"

CS Wind entered the wind industry in 2003 and has manufacturing hubs in China, Vietnam and Canada, as well as its native South Korea.

The Humber region is becoming increasingly vital to the offshore wind industry. Last month, Siemens started construction works at its £310 million facility. The development will be used for turbine assembly and have a blade manufacturing plant.
