Vestas is "in early stage discussions with the Egyptian authorities over a memorandum of understanding that could lead to closer collaboration in the future," said a spokesman for Vestas.
The comment came in the wake of reports from the Daily News Egypt newspaper that Vestas had offered to build up to 2.2GW of wind power projects, representing an investment of $2.2 billion.
Egypt's electricity and renewable energy ministry expects to sign a memorandum of understanding in May, the paper said. The first plant will be a 250MW facility, most likely in the West Nile area.
According to reports, the electricity minister would also like Vestas to "develop and modernise" the operating 77MW Zafarana plant, currently equipped with 117 Vestas 660kW turbines that came online between 2001 and 2004.
In March 2015, Vestas rival Siemens signed an agreement to develop 2GW of projects and build a blade factory in Egypt.
