EDF Renewable Energy buys OwnEnergy

UNITED STATES: EDF Renewable Energy has acquired mid-sized New York-based wind developer OwnEnergy.

OwnEnergy developed the 51MW Bobcat Bluff project in Texas

EDF Renewable Energy has bought 100% of OwnEnergy assets, including the 20 staff and its pipeline portfolio of 329MW eight-project developments across the US.

OwnEnergy was set up in 2007, partnering with local landowners to help them develop projects up to 100MW.

The company developed six wind projects, totalling 240MW, which were subsequently sold.

EDF Renewable Energy CEO Tristan Grimbert said: "Own Energy's business model taps into the entrepreneurial spirit of farmers, ranchers and other community leaders across the country... Their community partner approach will continue under the EDF Renewable Energy brand."

Jacob Susman, CEO of OwnEnergy said the deal was a "perfect fit".

EDF has an installed capacity of 3.2GW of renewable energy in North America.
