The G114-2.5MW is the company's first turbine of that capacity. It was first unveiled at the AWEA conference in Chicago, in 2013.
Gamesa's new turbine has been fitted with 56-metre blades. All of the turbine's components were manufactured in Spain.
Testing the prototype will enable Gamesa to secure a type certification on the model. Gamesa hopes to achieve this by the end of the year.
According to the manufacturer, the G114-2.5MW turbine produces 29% more power than its popular G97-2MW model.
The manufacturer has already received several orders for the G114. Its first was from investment firm John Laing to supply the 15MW Rammeldalsberget project in central Sweden.
Most recently, the G114 was ordered by ScottishPower Renewables for the 239MW Kilgallioch site in Scotland. It is set to become the UK's second largest onshore project when commissioned in 2017.
The class II wind speed turbine will also provide the basis for Gamesa's G106-2.5MW turbine for high wind speed sites. This version was unveiled at the RenewableUK annual conference at Manchester in November. A prototype of the G106 is expected to be installed by the end of 2015.
