Siem wins Veja Mate contract

GERMANY: Siem Offshore has been awarded the inter array cable installation contract at the Laidlaw Group's 400MW Veja Mate project in the German North Sea.

Siem Offshore will carry out the cable installation at Veja Mate

Siem will install 97 kilometres of inter array cabling with work expected to begin on the system in 2016. The project is expected online in 2017 after first being given a construction permit in 2009.

Siem will connect the 67 Siemens 6MW turbines to each other and the project's substation. It is due to be connected to the German grid via the BorWin 2 converter platform.

Veja Mate is located over 100 kilometres off the German coast and was acquired by Laidlaw from Bard Offshore in September. The investment firm also owns the nearby 210MW Deutsche Bucht project.

Siem Offshore is also the cable contractor for the Nordsee 1 and Baltic 2 projects.
