Asked whether MHI-Vestas was looking at a 10MW turbine, Kato said this could happen although it was still focused on the V164.
He said: "Yes, there is a possibility [of a 10MW turbine], but now we have just developed an 8MW turbine — the world's largest — and we would like to concentrate on this machine to make it more cost-effective and reliable."
Kato was speaking to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç TV at the EWEA Offshore 2015 event being held in Copenhagen, Denmark (10-12 March).
Kato also said MHI Vestas would look outside Europe for opportunities to expand into.
"There are several countries looking for the chance to expand their offshore turbines: China, the US and Japan. And we are very interested in the Japanese and Asian market."
The MHI Vestas V164 8MW turbine has been contracted to be used at Dong Energy's Burbo Bank Extension in the UK's Irish Sea.
