This is Dong's first German offshore project to be connected, four months after the first Siemens 3.6MW turbine was installed.

The project uses 78 Siemens 3.2MW turbines, optimised by the manufacturer to increase output to 4MW. Turbine installation at Borkum Riffgrund 1 began in October but was  due to manufacturing problems at Siemens.

Cabling was completed by CT Offshore in December at the site located 44 kilometres off the coast in the German North Sea.

Monopile foundations at Borkum Riffgrund were . One of the foundations is a full-scale prototype of a suction-bucket jacket foundation, which was installed in August.
