Braga was speaking at his swearing in ceremony at the Ministry of Mines and Energy in the capital Brasilia.
The new minister said, "The generation of wind and solar energy will be increasingly representative in domestic energy supply."
He said this year the ministry's energy planning and development department would "promote... studies of the potential for inclusion of new energy sources such as offshore wind energy."
Braga takes over from Edison Lobao as energy minister who had been in the role since 2011.
Brazil is yet to install any wind capacity offshore, as onshore wind is highly competitive. However, there are some offshore projects in the early stages of development.

Eolica Brail said, in May, it aimed to begin the first 1GW of the project by installing a in 2016, followed by a 258MW demonstrator in 2017.
