The machine is an update of Siemens' 3.6-120 turbine, which launched in 2012. It is the third-generation product developed via Siemens global G4 platform.
The 4MW turbine has 63-metre blades, sweeping an area of around 13,300 square metres, which is 18% larger than that of the previous version.
It is believed the Siemens 4MW is the only offshore turbine built in China that has GL certification.
Shanghai Electric said it would intensify cooperation with Siemens by introducing more of its wind technology and products through licensing.
Shanghai Electric aims to become the leading offshore wind manufacturer in China. The two company's wind power joint ventures began operating in July 2012.
At China Wind Power 2014 in October, Shanghai Electric's deputy president Liu Qi said there had been problems in the company's venture with Siemens but there were no details about the nature of the issues.
Two JVs were set up between the companies in 2012. The first is dedicated to research and development and component production for both China and Siemens worldwide. The second covers sales, marketing and project management in China.
Qi said the companies would continue to cooperate, adding it had yielded positive results, as shown by the amount of orders they have received. The two sides are making efforts to break the poor record of Sino-foreign ventures.
European and US manufacturers have struggled in the country. Notably, GE, Nordex and Senvion are among those to pull out in recent years.
