The US engineering firm will proivde Flidar with WindCube lidar devices, manufactured by French firm Leosphere. Flidar will adapt them for offshore installing software to correct for motion on the waves. The deal covers all of north, central and south america.
A lidar uses lasers to measure wind speeds at a range of heights. Flidar said the floating system is cheaper and easier to install than traditional met masts.

The independent validation by DNV GL means that Flidar can move forward to the pre-commercial stage of the Carbon Trust's offshore wind accelerator roadmap.
The roadmap outlines stages Flidar needs to reach to become commercially accepted as an alternative to installing met masts.
