The A5 November auction was postponed from September due to some project delays. It places a January 2019 connection deadline on the new capacity.
The A5 auction received bidding applications from 1115 projects totalling 53.87GW. Wind's chief competition is from 39 combined cycle gas projects totalling 20.61GW and 224 solar photovoltaic projects totalling 6.1GW.
The 30 October reserve power auction is restricted to renewables and has a 2017 commissioning deadline. Of the 26.3GW registered to bid, wind leads with 15.36GW, followed by solar PV, with 10.8GW.
While the amount of power to be sold is not known, Brazil's wind energy association, Abeeolica, expects more than 3GW of wind to win contracts this year, including the projects totalling 550MW that won contracts in June's A3 auction.
