Launched at the WindEnergy Hamburg event, Siemens said the new SWT-3.3-130 turbine would be available from 2017.
The German manufacturer said the direct-drive turbine's components, such as the bedplate and yaw drive, have been strengthened to accommodate the 130-metre diameter rotor. The generator and rotor hub have also been updated.
Siemens' head of onshore wind for central and southern Europe, Hannes Reuter, spoke to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç TV about the turbine at WindEnergy Hamburg.
"[Low wind] is a competitive market but it's one of the biggest markets. The low-wind market in Europe is 70% of the market," said Reuter.
The new turbine is part of Siemens' D3 platform, which includes the SWT-3.0-113 and the SWT-3.2-113.
Along with longer blades, it also features a new cooling system integrated into the nacelle, said Siemens.
