JDR awarded Sandbank inter-array deal

GERMANY: JDR Cables has been handed the contract to design and manufacture inter-array cables for the 288MW Sandbank offshore project in the North Sea by VBMS (formerly VSMC).

The UK-based firm will produce 105 kilometres of 630mm2 and 185mm2 copper core inter-array cables to the project, located 90 kilometres offshore. The cables will be made at JDR's Hartlepool facility in northeast England.

Sandbank is located beside the 288MW DanTysk site in the North Sea. Swedish utility Vattenfall and Germany power supplier Statdwerke München are jointly developing both projects.

VBMS was handed the cable contract for Sandbank by the developers in August.

The project will use 72 Siemens 4MW turbines on monopile foundations being made by EEW. Construction is expected to begin next year.

Last week, JDR's chief executive the company after three years in the role. The company said a recruitment process was underway.
