Hoffer said the blade manufacturer has had to deal with fluctuating order loads by becoming more adaptable.
"As with any manufacturer of larger-capital goods, we prefer longer runs, that is what we have had in the past.
"That luxury we don't always have and we have really tried to adapt to that with more flexibility in the whole supply chain with suppliers and obviously in our own factories," he said.
Hoffer said LM's factories were able to perform quicker changeovers so shorter manufacturing runs were less expensive than they had previously been.
Speaking at WindEnergy Hamburg, Hoffer estimated blades cost up to 20% of the total expenditure of manufacturing an onshore turbine, and around 10% for an offshore unit.
