The gearbox manufacturer will open the workshop in February 2015 to expand its service facilities to the Midwest.
Moventas already has a wind gearbox assembly facility and workshop in Portland, Oregon, a workshop in Big Spring, Texas, and a remote condition-monitoring centre in Chicago. In addition to its workshops, Moventas operates four mobile service units, including one in the Midwest.
“uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç revealed Moventas's plans to expand in the US earlier this month when Arto Lahtela, senior vice president for wind gears, said the company was prioritising servicing in the US.
"Service is a big part of our business and has been for a few years now. We've been investing in it over the last four or five years, setting up a presence in all of the main wind countries. And we will be continuing that heavily," said Lahtela.
Moventas also announced this month that it has created an Italian subsidiary to deal with what it describes as growing demand for gearbox servicing in southern and eastern Europe.
