Horizon was handed the £1 million (EUR 1.26 million) contract by Navitus Bay Development Limited (NBDL) to carry out drilling and take 15 soil samples from the seabed. The project is a 50-50 joint venture between EDF and Eneco Wind.
The survey will be used to determine the most suitable type of foundation for the project's proposed 194 turbines.
The UAE-based geotechnical service provider will use its Horizon Geobay vessel to carry out the drilling. Water depth at the site ranges from 32 to 53 metres.
Navitus Bay is still in the planning process after the UK's examining authority, the Planning Inspectorate, received a record number of representations from interested parties.
The inspectorate will examine the application and make recommendations before the UK government's secretary of state for energy and climate change makes a final decision on whether to allow the project to be built.
