WORLDWIDE: In the years since the birth of the wind industry a number of once prominent brands have disappeared through mergers and takeovers.
Zond was set up in 1980 and developed turbines with a capacity of 550kW and 750 kW.
The company was then taken over by Enron in 1997.
Enron Wind developed a 1.5MW turbine before the company collapsed. The firm's technology rights were bought by GE.
Bonus was born out of Danish irrigation firm Danregn and quickly grew to be one of the leaders in turbine manufacturing.
Its turbines formed the basis of Siemens Wind Power following the takeover of the company in 2004.
As a sole operator Micon produced turbines of up to 750kW.
Following a merger with Nordtank Energy Group in 1997, the company produced 35 different turbines.
The company merged with Vestas in 2004.
Before the merger, NEG Micon acquired fellow Danish company Wind World in 1998.
Ned wind was also bought by NEG Micon in 1998, with its technology and assets eventually transferring to Vestas.
