Acciona wins further 153MW in Brazil

BRAZIL: Acciona has won a contract to supply turbines with a capacity of 153MW for installation on a project in Brazil.

Acciona's 3MW turbines will be installed on the project

The Spanish manufacturer will install 51 of its new low-wind AW 125/3000 turbine on the Santa Vitoria do Palmar wind farm being developed by Atlantic Energias Renovaveis.

The turbines are an adaption of the AW 116/3000, with a larger rotor to take advantage of lower wind speeds. They will be installed on 120-metre concrete towers to further increase low-wind performance.

Acciona will also provide operations and maintenance services at the project for a period of 15 years.

This is the second contract win in Brazil announced by Acciona this week, after the company was awarded a 90MW deal by Rio Energy to supply turbines to the projects in the north-east of the country. These deals come in the wake of the recent Brazilian Energy auction that saw 551MW of projects win deals.

The manufacturer has a pipeline of 666MW in Brazil, making the country Acciona's largest market for the 3MW turbine.

In order to meet Brazil's local content requirements, Acciona has one manufacturing plant in the country, with another under construction and expected to be completed at the end of the year. Both are located in the state of Bahia.
