First Subsea launches new cable connector

GERMANY: First Subsea has unveiled a new cable connector for offshore turbines, which aims to cut cost and installation time.

First Subsea's connector would reduce installation time and costs

The Hang Off connector is designed to supply an airtight structural connection to the turbine's lower deck, which the company said would cut installation times by 36 hours per cable.

The UK-based firm said it could also save up to EUR 100,000 per cable.

First Subsea's connector can be used for J-tubeless monopile entry points and through the more traditional J-tube. The new system also requires fewer workers to install the cables

The company said the system allows for damaged cables to be recovered from the turbine while leaving cable protection systems in place.

First Subsea is launching the Hang Off cable connector at the Windforce 2014 conference in Bremen, Germany (17-19 June).
