Prysmian gets Baltic cable contract

GERMANY: The Prysmian Group has been handed a EUR 730 million contract to supply power cables to the West of Adlergrund cluster of wind projects by 50Hertz Offshore.

Some of the cables will be manufactured at Prysmian's Arco Felice factory in Naples, Italy

The Italian cabling company will design, produce and install the cable systems to connect the Baltic Sea cluster to the German grid.

The projects are currently under construction and will lie approximately 40 kilometres north east of Rügen Island. They will be connected to the Lubmin substation in northeast Germany.

The contract is the German system operator's largest ever order.

The 220kV High Voltage Alternate Current (HVAC) cables will be produced at Prysmian's factories in Finland and Italy. Installation will begin in 2015.

Prysmian will use its Cable Enterprise DP 2 ship to install the cables.

The company has been heavily involved in offshore projects in Germany. It has already been involved with grid connections at the BorWin2, Borwin 3, Helwin1, Helwin 2, Sylwin1 and Dolwin3 projects.
