In a rare move for a turbine purchase announcement, both Alstom's price and that of its competitors was revealed. It shows current turbine prices in Poland are slightly below the EUR 1 million/MW benchmark.
According to PGE, Alstom consortium undercut Vestas and Siemens on price per megawatt, having offered to meet PGE EO's requirements for EUR 81.1 million. Vestas' bid EUR 87 million, while Siemens' went in with a EUR 90 million price tag.
The project in question, known as Lotnisko (Airport), will consist of 30 3MW turbines, totalling a capacity of 90MW. The wind farm will be located in the village of Kopaniewo, in the Gdansk province in northern Poland, near a disused military airfield.
Alstom will have to offer a two-year guarantee on the equipment it will supply as well as provide service and maintenance. It has 18 months to install the turbines.
PGE EO's wind energy portfolio totals 283MW. The company's strategy is to add 234MW of new wind capacity by 2016 while the capital earmarked for the purpose is about EUR 430 million by 2020.
