The German manufacturer will provide nine of its 2.3MW geared turbines for the Carroll Area wind farm, which is being developed by NJR Clean Energy Ventures.
Installation of the SWT 2.3-108 turbines is due to start in October, with commissioning set for the first quarter of 2015. The contract also includes an operations and maintenance agreement covering an unspecified period of time.
Siemens said that all the major turbine components will be manufactured at the company's facilities in the US. The blades will be produced at the Fort Madison plant in Iowa and all nacelles and hubs will be assembled in Hutchinson, Kansas.
The SWT 2.3-108 turbine is a development of the SWT 2.3-93 machine, but with a larger 108-metre rotor rather than the original 93-meter rotor. The greater swept area means that it is suited to low- to medium-wind sites.
Iowa has the fourth highest installed wind capacity in the US, with 5.6GW in the ground.
