Fishermen's to take Atlantic City appeal to court

UNITED STATES: Fishermen's Energy will take their appeal for a 25MW offshore project to court after the local power board denied a motion to reconsider the proposals.

The 25MW project would be located off the New Jersey coast, 4.5 kilometres from Atlantic City with plans to install six turbines.

In March, the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) refused to allow Fishermen's application to construct the project on the grounds it would cost bill payers too much.

The BPU has now denied an motion by the company to reconsider. The developer has said it will take its appeal to the New Jersey Appellate Division court in a bid to over turn the decision.

Fishermen's chief operating officer, Paul Gallagher, said the company was disappointed but not surprised by the outcome of BPU's decision not to reconsider the motion.

"We expect to be vindicated by the courts and to build the first offshore wind farm off New Jersey, one that still could be the first in the United States," Gallagher said.
